FontanaArte is a Made in Italy brand that, from the beginning, is characterized by the particular glass processing and the creation of furnishing accessories: design lamps, modern coffee table, decorative vases, bookcases and consolles. In reality, the brand was born in 1881 by the Fontana family under the name of Società Luigi Fontana & C., a company known for the production of mirrors, stained glass and modern furniture. It was only in 1932 that Luigi Fontana decided to found the FontanaArte brand, together with the illustrious Giò Ponti, one of the greatest post-war architects and designers. The two men started creating incredible design objects, which were able to create perfect connections among art, design, everyday life and functionality. Over the years, the FontanaArte brand has worked with several renowned designers and in 1979 Gae Aulenti, a well-known successful architect and designer, became the new art director. FontanaArte also had an important collaboration with the famous architect Renzo Piano for the construction of glass coffee tables. Today, many renowned architects and designers work continuously to create new furnishing accessories, looking meticulously for design, art, creativity, contemporaneity and elegance, factors that have always been of particular importance for the FontanaArte brand.

Son of the painter Pietro Chiesa, he began his apprenticeship with the painter Giovan Battista Gianotti. In 1921 he opened his workshop-store in Milan under the name of “Bottega di Pietro Chiesa S.A.”. In 1923, together with some artists including Gio Ponti, he formed the artistic association 'Il Labirinto' to promote the applied arts of the time. In 1930 he participated in the IV Triennale of Monza and in 1932 in the XVIII Venice Biennale. Three years later he became a partner of Luigi Fontana & C., which also incorporates the Chiesa shop and will become its artistic director together with Gio Ponti. In 1945 Chiesa ended his career as a designer. Chiesa is known today for its glassware, stained glass, mirrors, furniture and lighting.
