Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby met at the Royal College of Arts in London. In 1996, immediately after having graduated, they founded their professional studio in London. This activity has lead them to be among the most important British and international designers. Their multidisciplinary competences try to go beyond the industrial design, arts and architecture with an essential, conceptual and chromatic design. Some important cooperation lead to the production of collections for Vitra, B&B Italia, Cappellini, Venini and Flos. Both Barber and Osgerby have been honored with the title of “Royal Designer for Industry” and in 2004 got together the prestigious award “Jerwood Applied Arts”. As “Doctor of Arts” they have lectured throughout the world and their products can be found in collections all over the world, included at the “V&A Museum” of London, the “Metropolitan Museum of Art” of New York, the “Design Museum” of London and the ”Art Institute” of Chicago.
Their greatest honor came from the task of the design of the Olympic Torch for the Olympic games London 2012. The torch, symbol of the Olympic games, has 8,000 micro-holes which represents the 8,000 athletes which have carried it from Olimpia to the Stratford Stadium. In the month of April of the same year, Rizzoli edited and published a monograph titled “The Design of Art”. One of their most recent projects is a commemorative 2 pounds coin for the 150th anniversary of the London Underground in 2013.
